Surfing has a remarkable vector of social integration and cooperation. In our city there are some initiatives that the city council has promoted to facilitate the training of surf school instructors in the practice and teaching of adapted and inclusive surfing. In this regard, some talks and sessions have been organised in Las Canteras.
On the other hand, there are several groups that periodically organise adapted and inclusive surfing sessions, namely the Association of Surf Schools of Gran Canaria, Hopupu Surf Club and the Association Mi Hijo y yo, which implements the project with European funding (Erasmus Sport 2023) called "Surfedaut".
The city council is finalising the mechanisms to activate the Inclusive Surf Centre of Las Canteras, where it is foreseen that surf activities will be developed periodically to facilitate social cohesion for people with reduced mobility, autism spectrum disorder and cognitive dysfunctions. It is expected to come into use in 2025, after the necessary administrative and legal procedures have been completed.
