Miraflores is a lovely city close to the Pacific Ocean, which has more than 2000 years of history. There developed 3 prehispanic cultures that adored Sea. Nowadays, Miraflores is still connected to the Sea, its beautiful beaches.
After Machu Picchu, Miraflores is the most visited city in Perú; the greatest internacional chains of hotels are located here. It has the best peruvian and international gastronomy; with our best wines and the famous Pisco Sour.
It is a sustainable city, where people can walk and sporting, enjoying of its parks, micromobility pathways and the extraordinary view to the sea. Miraflores is also, an important culutral space, with museums, libraries, theaters and activities at the free air.
The most important enterprises of Perú and the world are based in Miraflores, comercial and entertainment centers which ocean view, attract hundreds of peruvian and foreing surfers, all the 365 days of year run waves.
Miraflores is a beach resort since 19th century. Champions’s surfs of the mundialists and Panamericanos got out of our beaches. Miraflores is the core of the peruvian surf and our city is determined in giving all the facilities to the sportsmen.
SURF IN MIRAFLORES
In the beginning of the 40s, Carlos Dogny Larco, an athlete and globetrotter from Miraflores who had lived some years in Hawaii, discovered surfing there and brought the first wood board to Peru, weighing 5 meters and 100 kilos, and called it “Surfboard”, a new sport, unknown in almost all the world. Dogny, who lived in Miraflores, in the beggining of Benavides Avenue, founded to the waves of the beaches of Miraflores were appropriate for the practice of this sport which only the Hawaiian’s nobles practiced.

Then (Carlos Dogny) returned to South America, bringing one of those big boards on a boat with the hope that there would be a suitable place to practice. When he arrived to Lima, he started to study the sea, and in Miraflores he saw waves that looked propitious, tried, worked and got it. Later, curious swimmers came up to him while he surfed, and he taught them this new sport. The interest increased that some enthusiasts began to produce their own wooden boards in workshops that they conditioned in garages. Since there was nowhere to leave the boards after running, the famous Waikiki club was created in Costa Verde in Miraflores. Also, Carlos is the one of the figures who had work hard for the construction of the first surf club in France”.
Carlos Dogny, who was councillor of the Municipality of Miraflores, obtained in 1942 the concession to use a small terrace with a mat roof, in front of the sea, then in that place, he founded the legendary Waikiki Club, the cradle of surfing of Miraflores and Peru. In the mid50s bagan the Table Championships, in two versions the "Big Wave in Kontiki" and the "Small Wave in Miraflores".
In Panamericanos Sports Games "Lima 2019", the Peruvian surf team won three gold medals, three silver and one bronze, against the best surfers from United States and Brasil. Several of our champions from yesterday and today started as surfers on the beaches of Miraflores; the first of the world to adopt surfing.
