Donostia-San Sebastián is a city with a population of 188,240 on the Basque Country's east coast. Bathed by the wild Cantabrian Sea, the city has 3 beaches which are extremely busy with water sports. Zurriola is the most open stretch of beach, and has the best surfing waves. This beach is the venue for major international Surf events, children's competitions, national circuits and other events.
Surf took off in the city in the 50s with the Artetxe brothers, and since then other names such as Marta Huércanos, Pablo Postigo, Iñigo Iraola, Oskar Garcia, Beñat Elosua, Kepa Alvarez, Borja Agote and Norman Landa have been the major representatives of Donostia's Surf community at all kinds of international events.
The location, surrounded by effective breakers such as Mundaka, Meñakoz, Punta Galea, Zarautz, Hossegor or Anglet, all within an hour of the city, and an attractive range of leisure activities, make Donostia the ideal surfing venue on the Basque Coast.
This Surf environment includes Pukas, Europe's largest surf board manufacturer, Wave Garden, a company revolutionising the Surf world with its artificial wave designs, Trinityboardsport, engineering to design parabolic boards and chips for Surf boards, among other companies in the value chain representing the Surf industry.
