The surf industry in the city has an economic impact of over 10 million euros per year, with more than 20,000 surfers per year, both locals and visitors. Especially after the pandemic of 2020, the growth of users and visitors in the surfing field has been very remarkable, in all its value chain.
In the city there are several surf schools that have public authorisations from the city council to exercise their activity on the beaches and comply with the basic requirements established (as set by the Canary Islands Surfing Federation) regarding the training of their instructors or civil liability insurance, among others.
In the area of schools and accommodation, the city council, together with the private sector, has promoted the implementation of the Integrated System of Tourism Quality in Destination, SICTED, a basic standard that guarantees the existence of regulated procedures in companies and operators, which has an impact on the visitor or user, whether local or not.
